DISCUSSION

SATURDAY - GSDIVA Discussion

German Shepherd Dog Inherited Ventricular Arrhythmia (GSDIVA), commonly called Ventricular Tachycardia (VT) or IVA, is a condition which has been documented in Shiloh Shepherds with more frequency over the last several years. This is a potentially lethal genetic cardiac condition. It benefits our breeders and owners to learn about GSDIVA and how testing may be able to eradicate it from our breed.

The ISSDC is very honored to have Dr. Carl D. Sammarco discuss this disturbing health problem with us. Don’t miss his talk at 6:15 PM Saturday, September 12th.

Dr. Sammarco is on staff at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, and also works with ALBA Medical Systems, Inc.

We will be also be offering Holter Monitoring over the course of the IEW weekend. The monitor must be worn for a 24 hour period and we will begin testing on Friday afternoon/evening. If you are interested in having your dog holtered during the weekend you must register in advance. Judges have been made aware of the Holter initiative and dogs who are showing are still encouraged to participate. The cost will be $45 and includes the $30 interpretation fee of ALBA Medical. You will receive a complete report within a week of test completion.
